Valentine's Birthday

HAPPY VALENTINES BIRTHDAY TO ME! Should I say that out loud and in public? YES!! Not because I am looking for gifts and well wishes. ( I do APPRECIATE them though) But because God woke me up this morning! HE said I am giving you another day so I have to celebrate!

Being born on Valentine's Day was always special to me. In elementary school some of my friends would write Happy Birthday on those little character shaped cards. As an adult Hallmark began making Valentine Birthday cards. That was nice but I kind of missed getting two cards.

As I begin my day of reflection on being 49 I can only say WOW! Amazing! I remember when 49 was VERY old! Ancient! But today I embrace it like an old winter coat. I LOVE IT!

My oldest daughter Kasi, my middle daughter Kortney and my youngest daughter Khaslyn all called and wished me Happy Birthday. My son Kinte will call later with an"old" joke!

I often think about being old and unable to care for myself. But today I feel YOUNG! I feel renewed! From this day forward no more complaining! I loved being a 49 year old Baby Booming, sensuous, intelligent, humorous, fun loving Black Woman!!! Am I tooting my own horn??
HELL YEAH!! Because I am thankful that I can!

You got to love everyday you are given and make the best of it.

My motto is " I have to exceed my expectations!"

The MEME Game! (Don't ask me either!)

One thing I have enjoyed as a woman aging gracefully, sensuously, powerfully and spirit filled is playing these games! LOL! I was "tagged" by Debbie and now I have to answer the following questions and then "tag" 6 Baby Boomer Divas!

SIX UNIMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT MYSELF
1.Link back to the person who tagged you.

2. Post the rules on your blog.

3. Share six unimportant things about yourself.

4. Tag six random people at the end of your blog entry.

5. Let the tagged people know by leaving a comment on their blogs.

So here is the list of 6 Unimportant things about me!

1. My name is spelled Kimberley on my birth certificate, but when my grandmother registered me for school she left out the second 'e', so I have been Kimberly since age 5.

2. I love to doodle on paper.

3. When I was a young I wanted to marry Sly Stone, Morgan Freeman and Paul McCartney!

4. My birthday and all 4 of my children's birthdays are multiples of 7 or contain the number 7- ME 2-14 Kasi- 3-7-77- Kinte-3-28-78 Kortney 8-14-81 Khaslyn 12-14-89

5. My 3 sisters and 3 first cousins and all of our children's first names start with the letter "K". There are 17 total. (No I am not going to list them.)

6. When I was between 13 & 17 I danced in an African group called the Bola Deru Dancers. We won a trip to Africa but Bola, the founder used it to go back home and we never saw or heard from him again. LOL

7. I am afraid of (gulp) squirrels. (Don't laugh or they will get you!)

Okay whose next?

Baby Boomer Sisters

I have to thank my Baby Boomer Diva Sisters Beverly and Karlyn first for reading my blog. WOW! Beverly, thank you for sharing your story about your father. Karlyn thank you for your comments. I was the epitome of a Daddy's Girl.

I guess that's why being a part of the Baby Boomer Divas is important. Even though I am sometimes MIA all of you wonderful Ladies are always in my thoughts and prayers!

Clarence A. Crenshaw, Jr. 1940-1976

Today would have been Clarence Allen Crenshaw, Jr.s' 68th birthday. He was a handsome, humorous and love filled man. He was my father. He was shot while sitting on his front porch in July 1976. He was 36 years old. A man mourned for three days. A man missed forever.

Even though he was my father, I was always amazed at his persona. He was an amazing man. I loved him fiercely and I still do.

I feel guilty sometimes because he often spoke about his 40th birthday and he didn't make it. I did. Today I feel closer to him than ever. Today I know is a day of miracles. Something "special" is going to happen today. Something "BIG" is going to happen in my life today. I knew it from the moment I opened my eyes. All I can sat is Thank you Jesus and thank you Clarence.

I have always wanted to write a book about my father. That has yet to come, if ever.
Today I just want to say Happy Birthday Clarence. I Love you and miss you.

Not Today
Clarence A. Crenshaw, Jr.
February 9, 1940-July 11, 1976
One day I will write a poem or a short story, maybe an entire book about my father. I want to tell all about the women who loved him, married him and birth his children. I want you to see his rich, deep chocolate skin and those slanted eyes with the Nat "King" Cole twinkle. Smell him fresh from the shower, after shave and pomade mingled with maleness. A million watt smile. Should have been on T.V. He was a smooth operator. He could cook too. My favorite then was ham hocks and pinto beans. One time he put in more ham hocks than beans. We didn't care. We laughed and ate.
One day I will tell you about my father.
But not today.

Barack Obama

I sit here this morning proud, Black and happy. As I stated before Black History Month (February) is my favorite month, and to see Barack Obama win 14 of the 23 states last night does my heart good. She may have gotten the most delegates so far, but he won the most states. Delegates in some places are still being counted. I am so happy for the Obama family this morning, he has to be waking up smiling too and ready to get to work.

Voting is a right, a privilege and a freedom. Those who don't exercise it CANNOT complain. I just pray that other democrats , especially Black democrats WAKE UP and vote for Mr. Obama. It is time for a change and only a new face can bring that about!

I have said this to many friends, but when I heard the very eloquent and elegant Mrs. Michelle Obama say it I had to say, "YES! You go Sister! You are SO right!" She was speaking on family and being a role model for the country., then she made the statement, "If you can't run your own house, then you can't run the White House." My sentiments exactly.

I just feel in my soul that America is ready for a change and Senator Barack Obama is the Man who is going to do it!

"YES WE CAN!"
